Overview of Curtains - Guide to Measuring

General Guidelines

Use a metal tape for accuracy.
Don't assume that wall angles are square.
Take accurate measurements and double check.

Curtain Measurement

Leave the calculations to us - we are the experts.
Measure the track NOT the window.
If you haven't installed a track or pole allow 6" either side of the window to allow curtains to be pulled back fully.
Track or Pole should be installed midpoint on the reveal [the space between the ceiling and top of window], If the track overlaps [corded tracks] measure both sections and add them together.

Curtain Drop

Sill length - the curtains should finish 1 cm above the sill to allow for fabric dropping slightly.

Above Radiator - the curtain should finish 2.5 cm above the radiator.

Full Length - the curtains should finish 1.5 cm from the floor.

Puddle Length - Fashionable option that allows the fabric to "puddle" on the floor and look really opulent not recommended where there are children!

All drop measurements should be taken from either the top of the curtain track or bottom of rings on poles.

Tab Top curtains should be measured from the top of the pole.

Remember to measure the diameter of the pole for tab tops.

Pelmets

Pelmets are supplied on a Velcro Fastening system - you need to install a "Pelmet Shelf", ideally 7 cm deep - normal softwood will suffice.

Pelmet shelf should extend 5 cm either side of the track.

Measure the width of the pelmet shelf and add on both left and right returns [sides].

Consider the pelmet depth - 25 cm is a minimum up to 40cm or even more.

Don't swamp the window with a pelmet that is too deep - should just be visible from the outside.

Blinds

Outside Recess - should extend, at least 10 cm either side of the recess.

Outside Recess - drop should be at least 10 cm from above recess to, at least, 10 cm below recess.

Inside Recess - measure top of recess [left to right] and bottom [left to right] - provide the smaller measurement to ensure that blind runs OK vertically.

Inside Recess - measure from absolute top of window to sill.

We automatically add a bottom flap to all Roman Blinds so that the blind always falls onto the sill.

Bedthrow

Can be made fitted or loose-throw.

Measure with bedding in place.

Measure from floor on one side - over the top - down to the floor on the other side.

Measure from the Headboard over the end of the bed to the floor or to the footboard [if fitted].
